Our History

What We Have Done
We led the fight for inclusion of park rangers under the federal law enforcement and firefighters system (6c). Even though this battle was won we still face hostilities from both the National Park Service and the Office of Personnel Management.

We have fought and won basic benefits for rangers including free Hepatitis B vaccinations; body armor, semiautomatic weapons and other equipment critical to the safe performance of our duties.

We keep members informed on their rights under the Fair Labor Standards Act and other federal legislation. The lodge is working on the NPS Medical Standards program to ensure they are appropriate and fairly enforced.

Why You Should Join Us

As a member you will receive the "Protection Ranger", the lodge's newsletter every two months.  With articles written by your colleagues, the newsletter brings you the latest information on issues affecting you on personnel matters, safety alerts, and professional tips from fellow rangers.

The "Protection Ranger" will feature occasional articles from our law firm, Passman & Kaplan, dealing with legal matters facing rangers.

The lodge membership assistance committee exists to help members with problems that arise in their professional lives. It is fully confidential, experienced members meet to consider the problem facing you and give advice based upon years of ranger service. If the solution is not readily apparent, the lodge will get a legal opinion- at no cost to the member- from our law firm listed above.

As a lodge  member you will be able to purchase the most cost effective legal defense insurance available. The package is endorsed by the Grand Lodge of the FOP and it meets the needs of law enforcement officers.  It is mobile between assignments and agencies.  The lodge receives a 15% discount on the annual premium price.

All members of the United States Park Ranger Lodge have all privileges of membership in the Grand Lodge.

If you are a seasonal for full-time law enforcement park ranger and  decide that you want to join our organization, or have questions about our organization, you can click  Membership Questions  to get your inquiries addressed.
